Information
This explains the requirements for entry to Canada as a student,
and provides information on who needs a student authorization and
how to obtain one.

Who needs an Education Visa?
Any student who is planning to study for more than 3 months
must apply for Student Authorization. This must be done OUTSIDE
of Canada. The Authorization process takes from a few weeks to
7 months (it varies amongst countries).
To apply for authorization you must:
- Have a valid passport
- Have of letter of acceptance from Universal Learning Institute
- Have a letter from Universal Learning Institute confirming
payment of school fees
- Have enough money to support yourself
- Complete an application form
- Pay a fee for student visa authorization
Basic Requirements for Student Authorization from Canadian officials:
- Satisfy a visa officer that you will be able to return
to your country or be admitted to another country after your
studies
- Have been unconditionally accepted by an approved educational
institutuion
- Have enough money during your stay in Canada to pay for:
- Tuition fees
- Living expenses for yourself and accompanying dependants
and
- Return transportation for yourself and accompanying dependants
- Be law abiding and have no record or criminal activity
(you may be asked to provide a Police Clearance Certificate)
- Not be a risk to the security of Canada
- Produce any additional documents requested by the visa office
to establish you admissibility
- Complete a medical examination if required
- Pay a fee
When Should you apply?
The time required to process an application to study in Canada
may vary at different visa offices. You should apply as early
as possible and allow at least six months to plan and prepare
for your application approval.
How do you apply for student authorization?
Complete the application form and include the fee they ask for
and the documents requested from the Canadian embassy or consulate
that serves your area.
You need to know and have:
- The cost of the your program including tuition and books
- Proof of medical insurance
- Proof you have return transportation costs covered
- Proof you have money for living costs for yourself and any
dependants while in Canada
What documents do you need?
- Proof of unconditional acceptance
This means a letter from Universal Learning Institute showing:
- The name of the institution
- Confirmation of your acceptance and/or registration
as a student
- The course of study
- The duration of the academic program
- The latest date you may register
- Proof of Identity
This means:
- A valid passport or travel document or identity document
that guarantees re-entry to the country that issued
it.
- Two recent passport size photos for each family member
(the name and date of birth of the person should be written
on back of each photo.
- Proof of financial support
This means evidence that you can support yourself and accompanying
dependants while you study in Canada. This may include:
- Proof of a Canadian bank account in your name if
money has been transferred to Canada
- Your bank statements for the past four months
- A bank draft in convertible currency
- Proof of payment of tuition and residence fees
- Any additional documents as per instructions from a
visa officer
