The Private Career Training Institutions Agency of BC (PCTIA) awarded Universal Learning Institute (ULI) accredited status. ULI was first accredited in 1999 for five years and has now been re-accredited until 2009. The voluntary act of becoming accredited involved over 18 months of self study as well as system and program audits by PCTIA which included detailed surveys of ULI's students, staff and successful job placements. A Student Training Completion Fund is administered by PCTIA which ensures that tuitions paid by students are protected no matter what may happen to an accredited institution. |

There are two standards for schools. Registration, which is mandatory, is the minimum standard for all private career schools in BC. Under registration, institutions must adhere to certain requirements and guidelines. These guidelines do not address such areas as quality, competence or ethics. The second level is that of "accredited". This process recognizes the institution for its quality assurance and integrity. The government of British Columbia established the Private Post Secondary Education Commission (PPSEC) in 1992. In 2004, PCTIA replaced PPSEC. PCTIA's stated mission is: "The Private Career Training Institutions Agency (PCTIA) has responsibility under the Private Career Training Institutions Act to: Provide consumer protection to the students and prospective students of registered institutions; Establish standards of quality that must be met by accredited institutions; Establish and manage the Student Training Completion Fund." |
